Historical snap-shot on glass - digital printed facade elements reflect contents of the museum

‘Experience history with all your senses‘– thanks to the new conception and renovation of the Geretsried museum this motto becomes reality. This permanent exhibition impressively sensitizes its visitors for the history of the expellees during the Second World War. Centered are subjects like armaments factory, flight and expulsion as well as camp life. Furthermore the beginning of the young but largest city of Tölz-Wolfratshausen county which is directly linked to the history of expulsion is conveyed to people in a lively way.

In two interconnected buildings various exhibits, mementoes, multimedia stations and emotionalizing installations are arranged. But not only inside history becomes tangible. Like that the facade design ‘Schwaige’ shows Geretsried before the war as a hamlet in the middle of a forest by arranging wood on the outside wall. Such an installation is design element, exhibit and part of the façade at the same time. Historical snap-shots are accurately reflected on the facade glazing. This was made possible by TG-PRINTdigital, ceramic digital printing on glass.

For the glazing of Geretsried museum Thiele Glas has produced three different black-white designs in total using the digital printing process. Displayed are expellees after their arrival in Geretsried where they usually must live in wood barracks for years. For realization the selected images were separated in thirteen laminated safety glass panels TG-PROTECT®-TVG with maximum dimensions of 700 x 2,185 mm. Our partner Fackler GmbH who was in charge for the construction on site fixed the panes by window strips at the upper and lower side to the façade. Additionally to the creative component the glazing serves as sun protection. By the intensity of the printing and partially opaque areas the light transmission is reduced and a sun protection effect achieved.
