Seeing spheres, San Francisco (USA)
„Seeing Spheres“, a large, public work of art in the USA, is located in front of the east entrance of the Chase Center in San Francisco. In addition to the multifunctional arena, the 45,000 m² property also houses offices, restaurants and retail, which are connected via public spaces. The five polished, hydroformed steel spheres of the artwork stand in a circle. Each sphere carries a flat, circular mirror, oriented to the centre of this formation. The superimposed reflections create an environment of multi-layered, reflected spaces. These mirrors, with a diameter of 3.20 m and framed by a ring of LED lights, were supplied by Thiele Glas. TG-PROTECT® was chosen for the glass because the composite mirrors reduce the risk of injury if the glass breaks. A total of 5 panes of glass with a quantity of 40 m² were supplied for this project.
