Thiele Glas is sponsoring engineered transparency 2014
The scientific conference “engineered transparency” takes place from 21 to 22 October 2014 as part of the renowned specialist trade fair “glasstec”. This year also sees the return of renowned national and international specialists to the Dusseldorf Exhibition Centre to give lectures on the latest developments in glass construction in architecture and engineering.
The conference is primarily designed for engineers and architects, but is also directed at glass manufacturers and processers as well as interested building owners. It aims to serve as a platform for the professional exchange of ideas on buildings and projects, energy and sustainability, structural design and construction, and research and development in architectural glass construction.
This year, Thiele Glas is supporting this top-class specialist conference as the platinum sponsor. For several years, the flat glass processing company has researched and worked on a number of different projects in cooperation with the Technical University of Dresden (TU). TU Dresden’s Institute of Building Construction is currently examining pre-stressed glass substrates in the framework of the Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM) of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy. The research project is being conducted in close cooperation with Wermsdorf-based Thiele Glas and Eitorf-based KL-megla GmbH.
Glass substrates with pre-stressed reinforcement allow for innovative glass supporting structures in modern architecture. As part of the “glastec” event, the TU Dresden is set to present the first research results using the example of a stressed glass bridge with a 9-metre span width.
